
Local Organic Y'All is led by veteran farm and food advocate Fred Broadwell, with offices in Durham, NC.
The project operates under the umbrella of The Abundance Foundation, based in Pittsboro, NC. Thank you, Abundance!
A native of the Carolinas, Fred is the former Education Director and Board member of the Carolina Farm Stewardship Association where he organized conferences, policy work, beginning farmer programs and farm tours. He is also the former sustainability leader at the Self-Help Credit Union/Ventures Fund, a billion dollar community development financial institution . For the last year, he has been editing, publishing and book-touring the memoir of organic and direct marketing pioneer Bill Dow ("What I Stand On"). In the 1990s, he lived in California, working in the foundation world, and where he got turned onto organic farming. Before returning to NC, he lived and worked for a year on a 500 acre historic farm in New England. Fred is a graduate of Davidson College and holds graduate degrees from UNC-Chapel Hill and UCLA. He lives in Durham with his wife and stepson. These days, they are growing carrots, herbs and flowers in their urban permaculture garden, and occasionally looking after the next door chickens.
